My name is Claire Vermette, and I’m a professional golfer from Saint Petersburg, Florida. I picked up a club at age 8 through The First Tee Youth Mentor Program while my dad served overseas in the military. I found a second family within the First Tee, leading to my love for the game of golf.
Since then, golf has been a journey of defining moments—each one teaching me to rise to challenges, work hard when no one is watching, and believe in myself even when the odds are stacked against me.
Public Course Mangrove Bay and The First Tee summer camps sparked my competitive side in a fun, supportive environment. I cherished the contests, the friendships, and the chance to learn something new every day. Those early years when my dad was deployed also taught me independence, resilience, and the importance of leaning on the people who believe in you.
At 16, earning a spot in The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach was a turning point—pairing me with a Champions Tour player for a televised event and giving me a glimpse into the professional stage. The experience instilled values and connections that continue to guide me today.
Jacksonville State University pushed my game like never before, surrounding me with players who raised the bar and coaches who gave me the tools to succeed. By graduation, my dream of becoming a professional golfer felt within reach.
The Tampa Bay community has supported me from the very start—Mangrove Bay, Belleair Country Club, Pasadena Country Club, The First Tee
of St. Petersburg, along with countless friends and family, have all rallied around my journey. I know firsthand that community—no matter where it’s based—can be the driving force behind a golfer’s success. As I take the next steps in my career, I’m excited to grow that community by partnering with individuals and organizations who share my vision and want to be part of the journey.
Off the course, I love slowing life down—reading a good book, exploring nature, and spending time with my fiancé. Whether it’s an evening walk, a weekend trip outdoors, or quiet time together, these moments keep me grounded and inspired for the challenges ahead.
